Lawn Mover - Which One To Buy?

In most parts of the US the lawn mover makes a regular Saturday morning appearance. On a nice sunny morning you will be able to hear the hum of the lawn mowers as they keep up with the never ending task of clipping the lawn to perfection. A great number of people absolutely love this pursuit, and as many again think it is a necessary chore, one that has to be attended to as quickly as possible so that more interesting activities can be enjoyed.

There are indeed many people who look forward to their weekly task of moving their lawns. Their reward is seeing how perfectly manicured their lawns look, and it is this that is the motivation behind the never ending task of keeping the grass in check. It is also a very well known fact that an attractive garden and well looked after lawns adds great value to a home.

For the new gardener, or first home buyer who finds himself the owner of not only a new house but a fabulous looking lawn, the decision to purchase a lawn mover can be quite a challenging one. It's OK for those of us who have grown up with lawn moving for pocket money on a Saturday morning, because we do have some idea on what features we like. If you want to purchase a lawn mover that is going to be problem free and last for a good many years, then expect to pay a good price for it.

Before you purchase a lawn mover you need to consider several things. If you have a large lawn you may be better suited to a ride-on mover, whereas most suburban lawns will only require a push mover. The type of lawn mover you purchase will also be determined by your budget. Physical fitness will also play a role in determining which type will be best suited to you. For example, a self propelled push lawn mover will be a better purchase for someone who does not have a lot of strength.

Many of us really do like spending time on our lawns, but most of us prefer it to be easy. Choosing a lawn mover that has plenty of power, is reliable and cuts well means that our task is finished in record time, leaving more time for our family and friends. This is very important for those of us that enjoy a busy lifestyle with not much free time on weekends.

Today's modern lawn mover has come a long way from the noisy, machines of the past. Anyone who was cutting lawns even 20 years ago knows how temperamental they used to be, particularly on starting. Superior blades also have made the world of difference in the type of cut that is now available.

The lawn mover is not new. It first made its debut as a reel mower back in the 1820's. Some 150 years later there are still people who prefer to use a type of reel mover to cut their small patch of grass. They are relatively quiet and can be unobtrusively used without waking the neighborhood, but they do require a little physical effort to push them. Their power source is you, which makes them high on the list of environmentally friendly lawn movers.

As outdoor sporting activities such as croquet, lawn bowls, cricket, tennis etc. gained in popularity, the lawn mover underwent massive technological advancements. It didn't take long for this technology to be incorporated into smaller movers for home use. The first rotary-blade lawn mover made its appearance back in the 1930's but today the push lawn mover is the one that is used extensively in our suburban gardens.
